DESCRIPTION
The Bison Land Eco-tourism destination is also known as The Land of the Monasteries, as it houses 17 monasteries and hermitages and about 1.100 monks and nuns, making it the 2nd European area as the concentration of monastic population, after Mount Athos in Greece. Most of these monasteries and hermitages are linked with hiking trails, created on the old routes and paths of the pilgrimages. On the footsteps of the pilgrimages, on paths marked with crosses, icons and other religious symbols, we hike in the company of our local guide, from Agapia to Agapia Veche, Sihla, Sihastria, Secu and other monastic sites, walking through secular forests housing wild animals and remembering at the same time the “mountain routes” of the local writer Calistrat Hogas – an immersion in Neamt county, its forests, history, and mythology.
