Kronenfest – the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul

DESCRIPTION

Kronenfest is known as the Feast of the Crown in the Saxon villages, or Dărdaica in the Romanian communities, and coincides with the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul in the Orthodox calendar. The event is celebrated every year in the Transylvanian Highlands, especially by the youngsters, who compete in unusual competitions. It is considered the last important celebration before the harvest begins and it is always held on 29th June or on the Sunday closest to the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul. Kronenfest is held simultaneously in Mălâncrav (Sibiu county), Rupea, Jibert, Dacia, Lovnic, Bunești and Viscri (Braşov county).
