The “Ioan Schiau” Memorial is an alpine skiing competition, organized to cherish the memory of the climber and mountain rescuer Ioan Schiau, the one who laid the groundwork for the Râușor skiing slope. The competition is for amateurs and professional athletes alike, being organized in four age categories, as well as according to gender. Ioan Schiau was the head of the Mountain Rescue Service in Hunedoara in the 1980s. His former mountain rescue teammates say about him that he was a very special person and one of the best mountain experts.
Registering is free, and the competitors winning the first places will be awarded diplomas and prizes consisting in sports equipment.
