The Vama Sării Festival is related to the old practice of transporting salt on rafts on the Crișul Repede river all the way to Oradea or Budapest. In the immediate vicinity of Vadu Crisului village you can still see the ruins of the watchtower that served as the salt toll point (Vama Sării) in the Middle Ages.

Nowadays the event is popular not only among the locals and it includes folklore shows, cooking contests and various other activities.
