Vama Sării Festival

DESCRIPTION

Târgul de la Vama Sării is a traditional festival in Piatra Craiului ecotourism destination, which has its origins in the Crișul Repede rafting. The name of the festival in Vadu Crișului has ancient origins, dating back to the 13th-15th centuries, when salt extracted from the hollows of Transylvania, transported to the Pannonian Plain and Central Europe, was sold in the gorge.

Every year the salt route is reproduced from the time when, at the customs point between Transylvania and the Ottoman Pashalac at Oradea, the customs officials detained part of the salt brought by carts or raftsmen on the Criș. In the vicinity of Vadu Crișului you can still see the ruins of the watchtower, today a historical monument, which can also be admired from one of the via ferrata routes in the Criș River gorge.

The event is a folk festival with a bazaar, folklore shows, light music concerts, cooking competitions and many other surprises prepared by the organisers every year. For over 50 years, hundreds of locals and tourists from Romania and abroad have gathered in Vadu Crișului.
