DESCRIPTION
On the first Sunday in September, you are invited to the most palatable festival of Eco Maramureș.
The Goulash Festival takes place in Ocna Șugatag, where amateur and professional chefs outdo each other in preparing the most savoury goulash. The winner is chosen after having tasted the meals, and the food must, most certainly, be “washed down” with horinka. The word “goulash” means “cowherd” in Hungarian. In the old days, it was called “goulash meat”, meaning beef cooked by the cowherd. The first recipe which has been described as a preparation method dates as early as 1787. The preparation of goulash did not undergo any alterations in time, its ingredients and their combination being left unchanged.
