Mountains and forests of Neamț

Day 1. Arrival at Lacu Roșu and accommodation at the guesthouse. Short walk towards one of the many ”Pietre”, small limestone massifs often colonized by ancient forests, offering nice viewpoints over the surrounding landscape of Bicaz Gorges.

Day 2. MTB tours in Hășmaș National Park – 35 km, 700 m climb. The upper Bicaz valley is known for the human habitats developed on the slopes and ridges of the Carpathians. These stunning landscapes, shaped by the interaction of the vigorous mountain communities and wild nature, are the perfect backdrop for any outdoor activities.

Day 3. Sport climbing in Șugău Gorges. Shaded or sunny crags, multi pitch or sport climbs, airy towers for the keen beginner, easy and hard bouldering are all available.

Day 4. Hiking (700m climb, 4-6 hours walking) towards the peaks and canyon like valleys of this vast karst system known as Bicaz Gorges. Hășmașul Mare is the highest summit at 1797 m and the approach passes a series of wide open meadows bordered by dark spruce forests. The view from the top encompasses almost the whole range of the Eastern Carpathians, overlooking both Moldavia and Transylvania.
A 2 h transfer brings us close to Neamț stronghold. Accommodation in Târpești, typical ages old settlement of the area where the Moldavian plateau meets Stânișoara Mountains – beech and spruce forests, meadows where transhumant shepherding is still going strong, and herds of European bison at large.

Day 5. MTB tour (40km, 700m climb) in Vânători Natural Park – Agapia and Văratec convents, housing the largest monastic communities in the country, then passing near the oak and birch forests known as the Bronze and the Silver Forests, we find our way back through typical wooden villages.
Day 6. Climbing at Sihla, on the sandstone boulders surrounding Saint Theodora hermitage at 1000 m altitude. Half an hour away from Târpești we find Romania’s largest and oldest bouldering venue – more than 200 problems on boulders up to 7 m.

Ziua 7. Târpeşti – transfer.

Since 2003 we run cultural tours with an active twist, for both groups and individuals, favoring interaction with the people, the landscapes and cultures encountered on the way. By using small providers we try to encourage the conservation and also the development of local communities. We like to go “off the beaten track” and show our guests undiscovered Romania, its traditional values, unspoiled nature and rural charm.
