Wherever you go in Băile Tuşnad you will find the area truly blessed with fine mineral waters. Famous for a several centuries now, these mineral waters have healing powers giving a sense of peace and well-being. If time allows you, go and visit the mofettes (fumaroles) - natural vents in the ground that emit curative gases - which together with the richly ionized air and the refreshing subalpine climate, will help you regain your strength.
Short hikes can be taken anywhere through the cool forests of ancient firs. Venture a little further and you can reach the only volcanic lake in the country - Lake St. Anne - and nearby, the wonderful Tinovul Marsh nature reserve with rare plant species - relics from the last ice-age. The surrounding mountains offer the traveller outstanding views: Harghita - a volcanic mountain with its depths heated by magma, and the Bodoc Mountains - softer, and rich in beech forest.
Nearby, the Ciuc Depression reveals small peasant fortresses, castles and manor houses dating from medieval times. If you want a unusual souvenir, choose some pottery from Korund - delicately decorated in shades of green and blue. To complete your enjoyment of this area, sample some culinary delights with a Hungarian flavour: caraway soup; bean and ham soup served in bread; gulash; "Kurtos Kalacs" (a kind of conical, spiral doughnut); and many others, that we invite you to discover on a leisurely stroll through the local villages or resorts.
