Wildlife watching
The dense and unspoilt forests that cover the Carpathian Mountains are home to a large number of animals, especially large mammals. Here you find about half of the brown bear population in Europe west of Russia, more than 3.000 wolves roam freely through the forest and also lynx can occasionally be seen.
Specially trained guides introduce you to follow their trails, to find their markings in the forest and to gain a profound knowledge about the traditional co-existence between human beings and wildlife.
Besides this the Carpathian Mountains provide study areas for several re-introduction programmes of species like the European bison, beavers and marmots.
All-year-round activities:
- wildlife watching from special observation hides
- off-track hikes focussing on the determination of wildlife signs
