What?

Delightful, family-run guesthouse, surrounded by a large garden of apple and cherry trees, in Sucevita village near to Sucevita monastery - one of the five well-known "Painted Monasteries of Bucovina". The guesthouse owners, Trandafir and Felicia Cazac, and their daughter Daniela, provide traditional Moldavian hospitality in two attractive houses built of wood and decorated with traditional furniture and materials. One of the houses - built from massive oak planks with a pine-shingled roof - has been brought from a neighbouring village and re-erected in the Cazac’s garden, to give visitors the full flavour of the Bucovinan way of life.

Delicious, traditional meals cooked by Felicia using local, organically-grown ingredients and accompanied by home-made plum brandy and wines. Don’t miss the beetroot and vegetable soup!

Trandafir and Daniela can guide you on local tours to the Painted Monasteries, hikes through the beech forests and across the rolling hills of Bucovina, and visits to friendly, local craft workers.

Where?

Sucevita village is about 50 km west of the county town of Suceava. This northern county is home to the 5 Painted Monasteries of Bucovina: Sucevita, Moldovita, Humor, Arbore and Voronet - together making a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are many other impressive monasteries in the area, including Putna and Dragomirna. The name Bucovina (or Bukovina) is derived from the rolling hills covered with dense beech forests that characterise the area.

When?

Accommodation and traditional cuisine all year round. Winter is a good time for traditional music and festivals, spring, summer and autumn for nature and wildlife.
